Kelly Clarkson has been transparent about her weight reduction journey, including the methods she's used and the health concerns that have made it more difficult.

For instance, the celebrity disclosed earlier this year that a weight-loss drug had helped her lose weight recently, although she did not name the brand. In an episode of her talk program, "The Kelly Clarkson Show," she addressed Whoopi Goldberg—who has also taken weight loss medication—and validated the claims.

She has also said in the past that she lost weight by trying out a high-protein diet and being more active by walking about New York City. Protein helps you feel content and full, which makes it easier for you to eat less calories.

When Clarkson made an appearance at the 2024 Daytime Emmy Awards in June, fans were once again in awe of the outcomes she's achieved. She wore a fitted, vibrant pink gown with a matching cape.

What medication does Kelly Clarkson use to reduce her weight?

Clarkson did not say what kind of medicine she is using to lose weight other than the fact that it is not Ozempic.

She spoke with Whoopi Goldberg, who has also been open about using Mounjaro, another weight-loss medication, on a May episode of "The Kelly Clarkson Show" and verified the claims.

The "American Idol" winner said that she changed her mind about using medicine to reduce weight "because my blood work got so bad."

She said, "I was like, 'No, I'm afraid of it, I already have thyroid problems.'" Her doctor followed up with her for around two years.

"Everyone believes it to be Ozempic, but it's not." It's not only that, she informed Goldberg. However, it's something that contributes to the sugar's breakdown. Evidently, my body isn't doing it correctly.

She went on to say that before taking the drug, she had no idea how much weight she had acquired. But she recalls pausing and asking herself, "Who the f--k is that?" after spotting herself on video one day.

Clarkson went on, "At my heaviest, I was about 203, and I'm 5 foot 3 and a half." "It’s funny because people assume, ‘Oh she must’ve been miserable, depressed, whatever,’ and I was like, ‘No I was not.'"
She said, "I was happy about it; I was never insecure about it."

Kelly Clarkson lost weight in what way?

In addition to taking a weight-loss drug, Clarkson has made lifestyle changes for her long-term health.

In January 2024, she credited her move to New York City for helping her get active. In an exclusive interview with People, she revealed that she's lost weight because she's now taking her wellness seriously and walking more.

She did not address her gym routine but said, “Walking in the city is quite the workout."

Clarkson chose to relocate her talk show to New York from Los Angeles in 2023. “I was very unhappy in L.A. and had been for several years. I needed a fresh start,” Clarkson told People. California, she said, wasn't good for her mental health.

She also embraced a few other wellness fads in New York. "Right now, I'm very into infrared saunas. And because everyone tired me out, I just took a chilly dive," the "Piece By Piece" singer continued.

Clarkson isn't going overboard with her diet.

She said, "I eat a healthy mix," to People. "I lost weight because I've been paying attention to my doctor; for a few years, I wasn't." I'm also really excellent at it 90% of the time because I benefit from a high-protein diet anyhow. I'm a Texas gal, therefore I apologize to all vegetarians worldwide—I adore meat!"

I still overspend, though. "I had a frozen yogurt with my daughter the other night, and it was amazing," continued the Grammy winner, who is separated from ex-husband Brandon Blackstock and has two children, River Rose, 10, and Remington, 8.

Kelly Clarkson's issues with her weight

Over her time in Hollywood, the "American Idol" star has faced a lot of criticism over her weight.

She said that she gained her coaching position on "The Voice" after putting on some weight, and she told Glamour UK in 2020 that being slender doesn't necessarily make her more confident.

"Because it was immediately after I had kids, I got on the top television show at my lowest point, and it seemed like they didn't care," Clarkson remarked.

"NBC Entertainment Chairman Paul Telgdy recruited me from NBC because he admired my charisma, my ability to connect with people, and my genuineness. It was unrelated to my attractive appearance or my sex appeal.

When Jenna Bush Hager of TODAY and her twin sister Barbara Pierce Bush came on "The Kelly Clarkson Show" in November 2023, Clarkson and Jenna Bush Hager connected over their shared battles with weight.

Clarkson displayed a picture of Jenna and Barbara in matching childhood outfits during the talk.

About the clothes she and her sister were sporting in the photo, Jenna remarked, "Those drop waist things were popular." "Which is not good for girls with curves later on," Clarkson chimed in.

Barbara acknowledged that she and Jenna "were chubby" when they were younger, saying, "Well, there was a stage."

After giving Jenna a high five, Clarkson said, "I've had many stages."
